SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Blue Raider Women's Golf battled through a tough final round at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on Wednesday, carding an 18-over par 306 after making the turn at 8-over par in the final round.
The third round score matched Houston Baptist's, who entered the final round tied with Middle Tennessee, leaving the two in a fifth place tie at 53-over par. Despite the late struggles, MT (296-315-306=917) remained within eight strokes of the three squads directly ahead of them in the team standings.
"This is certainly not the overall result we wanted, but we still had several good rounds by everyone and to get a Top 10 for Sophie despite only two birdies all week was great," Head Coach Chris Adams stated.
Sophie Burks struggled down the stretch in San Antonio, but played strong enough throughout the tournament to claim her third Top 10 finish of the season at 9-over par (73-75-77=225) and led the entire field with 42 pars.
Savannah Quick turned in the best Blue Raider score for the second time this week, shooting a 3-over par 75 to finish the event 14-over par (72-83-75=230) and tied for 17th.
Freshman Taylor Edlin (78-77-78=233) and sophomore Madison Smith (73-83-77=233) gave MT four golfers in the top half of the field as the pair tied for 23rd in the field of 48. Edlin was highly impressive on the par threes all week, as a 1-under mark in was the best of 48.
Caroline Caudill finished the 54-hole event four strokes back of Edlin and Smith at 21-over (80-80-77=237) and tied for 27th place.
