Sweep gives Raiders sixth-straight win

BATON ROUGE, LA. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis kicked off the spring break matches with an unblemished outing, defeating Southern 7-0 for their sixth-straight win Wednesday at the Southern Tennis Courts.
Swiftly securing the doubles point over the Jaguars, Blue Raider pair Lidia Burrows and Lee Barnard shut out Southern's Tanaka Chakanyuka and Nandi Munyulwa, 6-0. They were followed by Zani Barnard and Marta Peris clinching the doubles point for the Raiders on court 2 with a 6-1 win over Stephanie Mbaya and Anya King.
Leading 1-0 headed into singles, Muskan Gupta wasted no time on court 5 and quickly took down Nandi Munyulwa in the first set, 6-1. Gupta maintained speed as she entered the second set and closed out the match in a straight-set victory over Munyulwa, 6-1, 6-0.
Gupta's victory extended the Blue Raider lead to 2-0 over the Jaguars with five courts remaining in play.
Extending the Raiders lead to 3-0, freshman Love-Star Alexis dominated Southern's Shaeda Nickle's in the first set, 6-2, followed by a 6-0 win in the second set to secure the point over Nickle.
With four courts remaining, freshman Marta Peris Herrero stepped up for the Blue Raiders, clinching the match on court 4 over King in a straight-set win, 6-0, 6-2.
Remaining courts played out where the Blue Raiders collected three more victories over the Jaguars.
The Blue Raiders look to keep their win streak going Thursday at 2:00pm CST at New Orleans.
