Crawford signs SEC transfer Maylin Garrett

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head Coach Chuck Crawford and the Blue Raider volleyball team welcome former Razorback, Maylin Garrett to the family after she officially signed with the program on Wednesday.
The San Antonio, Texas native attended Antonian College Preparatory High School where she recorded 563 kills, 347 digs and a .261 hitting percentage during her senior campaign. She was named TAPPS 6A Player of the Year her senior year and received all-state, all-tournament and all-district honors throughout her high school career. Garrett was also named as a Prep Volleyball Senior Ace Honorable Mention performer.
"We are incredibly blessed to welcome the newest member of the Blue Raider family, Maylin Garrett," Crawford said. "Her personality, character and athleticism make her a perfect fit for our culture. After spending a few minutes with her you will easily be able to see what makes her such a special person."
The 6-foot, outside hitter was a redshirt freshman at the University of Arkansas this past season where she appeared in 24 matches and totaled 122 kills. She said one of the main reasons she decided on Middle Tennessee's program, was the coaches.
"I loved how the coaches made me feel super comfortable," Garrett said. "I felt like I could tell them everything and they would understand."
Garrett joins five other members of the 2020 Signing Class, who all signed during the NCAA early signing period in November. The Blue Raiders return eight players from the 2019-2020 team, who went 13-17 on the season and made an appearance at the C-USA Tournament for the first time since 2013.
"I am looking forward to gaining even more life-long relationships," Garret said. "I also can't wait to fight hard on the court with my teammates."

What is your earliest memory of volleyball?
The first block I ever got I started jumping up and down and ran to my coach during practice to tell her.
What is your music of choice while training?
It's kind of weird, but I love listening to country or R&B while working out.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
I always eat popcorn and pickles before a game.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
"I didn't come this far just to come this far. I came this far to go farther."
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Fun, responsible and weird
