MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the second consecutive season, Blue Raider golfer Sophie Burks has been named an All-Conference USA selection.
A junior from Montgomery, Ala., Burks represents Middle Tennessee on the league's third team.
"Sophie has worked very hard on her mental game and course management since she got here and her scores have showed that," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "She has a great work ethic and when she is competing it is hard to find anyone who is as focused as she is."
In the 2019-20 season, Burks led the Raiders in nearly every statistical category while boasting a 73.67 stroke average that ranks as the fourth best single season average ever at MT.
She fired a 2-under par 214 – the best 54-hole total by a Blue Raider this season – at Kentucky's Bettie Lou Evans Invitational to earn a Top 5 finish and also logged Top 10 finishes at Louisville's Cardinal Cup and UTSA's Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
She then earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors after a team-leading performance at Miami's Hurricane Invitational while her impressive junior season has placed her third all time at Middle Tennessee in career stroke average (74.81).
"The talent level in Conference USA continues to grow year after year, so this honor just further proves that her hard work is paying off and that she is among the elite in our league," Adams added.
