Blue Raiders open 2020 at Dean A. Hayes Stadium
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer began its fall preseason Tuesday at the Dean A. Hayes Soccer Complex. The practice marked the first official training session of the 2020 season.
"It's awesome to be back," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "Even though these are strange circumstances and it is difficult for all of us. The chance to get back out and do what we love is amazing and I am grateful for the opportunity."
The Blue Raiders return five of 11 starters a squad which last year reached the Conference USA tournament for the fifth time since 2014. The Blue Raiders, who went 8-10-1, scored 47 goals which ranks T-6th all-time in program history.
MT's attack is primed to be one of the most potent in the country with returning Conference USA Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year Peyton DePriest primed for her final season as a Blue Raider. The senior will be joined up top by the team's third top scorer from 2019 Maddison Falter. Falter played 1,265 minutes for the Raiders and tracked in five goals and four assists.
A stingy Blue Raider defense will look revamp as talented underclassmen fill missing shoes. Hannah Suder and Ida Forsberg will battle in the net to replace Sydney Chalcraft from graduation and Caroline Manley highlights the defense after leading the team in minutes.
"This week will be challenging because we are missing a few kids," said Rhoden. "This week is about getting back and resocialization and trying to figure out where people are physically and mentally. It is really a matter of getting our foot on the ball."
