Blue Raider Volleyball Set to Begin 2020-21 Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team kicks off its season this weekend with a pair of games against in-state foe Lipscomb.
The season opener on Friday, Jan. 22, will take place at Alumni Memorial Gymnasium, with the match beginning at 6 p.m. Middle Tennessee then returns to the court against the Bisons Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Allen Arena in Nashville, TN. Friday's match will be available for streaming on CUSA.TV.
Preseason Honors
Kayla Henley was named to the Volleyball Preseason All-C-USA team. She is one of 12 players to make up the 2020-21 list, as voted on by the conference's head coaches. After piecing together, a stellar freshman season in 2019, she finished third on the team in kills with 202, third in blocks with 53, and fifth on the team in digs with 158. She also collected double-digit kills on 11 occasions.
As a team, Middle Tennessee was picked to finish fifth in the C-USA East Division with reigning C-USA Champion, WKU was chosen as the favorite to win the conference.
New Faces
While the Blue Raiders return six letter winners from 2019, they are also boosted by freshmen Chloe Mingus, Megan Turner, Ally Hall, Melisa Töre, Amelia Van Der Werff, and Taylor Eisert.
All-Time vs. Lipscomb
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with Lipscomb, 2-0, with both matches ending in a 3-0 sweep. Sunday will be the first meeting between the teams in Nashville. Middle Tennessee has a record of 3-15 against current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Scouting Lipscomb
Lipscomb returns nine players from its 2019 roster that went 16-13 a year ago. The Bisons were 11-5 against Atlantic Sun foes. The Bisons are picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Sun, with Florida Gulf Coast picked as the favorite to win the conference.
Lipscomb returns outside hitter Megan Kuper who was a 2019 second-team All-ASUN pick. She led the Bisons with a 2.94 kills per set average and led the team with double-digit kills in 11 outings. She was recently named Preseason All-ASUN team.
Up Next
Following the opening weekend slate, Middle Tennessee will travel to North Alabama on Jan. 29 and will host the Lions on Jan. 31.
