MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's 2021 football schedule will include five bowl teams and a heavy flavor of Virginia schools as Conference USA announced the league schedules on Wednesday.
The Blue Raiders' 107th season of football includes home dates with Monmouth, Marshall, Southern Miss, FIU and Old Dominion.
The road contests include Virginia Tech, UTSA, Charlotte, Liberty, UConn, WKU and FAU.
It is important to note that all games are subject to date changes and some dates are expected to move in the coming weeks in order to accommodate national television. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
The Blue Raiders will open the 2021 season at home against Monmouth, an FCS member who plays in the Big South Conference. The Hawks and Blue Raiders will meet for the first time.
Middle Tennessee will then embark on a three-game road swing which begins at Virginia Tech on Sept. 11. It will be the Blue Raiders' first-ever meeting against the Hokies from the ACC.
MT will travel to UTSA and Charlotte the next two weeks to open conference play. The Raiders and Roadrunners will meet for the fourth time and it will be the third trip to the Alamodome for Middle Tennessee. MT added a mid-season game against UTSA this past season due to COVID-19.
The Blue Raiders will close out September against the 49ers. MT owns a 4-1 all-time record against Charlotte and this will be the fourth trip to the Queen City for the Blue Raiders in six meetings.
Middle Tennessee will begin October at home against league power Marshall, who spent most of 2020 in the national rankings. The Blue Raiders are 3-1 against the Herd at home all-time.
The next two games will be non-conference road contests against Liberty on Oct. 9 and UConn on Oct. 23. The lone open date of the season will be sandwiched in between on Oct. 16.
The Blue Raiders return home on Oct. 30 to host Southern Miss. MT is 3-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles and this will be the first meeting since 2014.
Conference USA's longest-running rivalry is set for Nov. 6 when the Blue Raiders travel to WKU. It will be the 71st meeting and the 34th in Bowling Green.
The Blue Raiders will then host FIU and Old Dominion in back-to-back weeks before ending the regular season on Nov. 27 at FAU.
Season ticket information will be announced at a later date.
