MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee head football coach Rick Stockstill welcomed five new players at the first team meeting held Sunday. Classes at Middle Tennessee for the spring semester started Monday.
The Blue Raiders had four transfers and a December signee all enroll in classes to begin preparation for the 2021 season.
"I am excited about what all these guys bring to the program," Stockstill said. "They have experience at a high level, fill immediate needs, and will get to go through spring practice. I can't wait to coach them."
The new transfers are highlighted by quarterback Bailey Hockman, who played the previous two years at NC State.
Hockman (6-2, 200), out of Powder Springs, Ga., will have two years to play for the Blue Raiders. In 2020, he threw for 2,088 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing 64% of his passes in leading the Wolfpack to the Gator Bowl.
Two offensive linemen and a wide receiver make up the remaining transfers. Netori Johnson (6-4, 320) comes from the University of Georgia and will have two years with the Blue Raiders, while Jamari Williams (6-3, 298) has four years to play after transferring from Arizona. Johnson was a four-star prospect coming out of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Ga., while Williams was a three-star performer at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Also hailing from Arizona is wide receiver Ma'jon Wright (6-2, 197). Wright played in all five games for the Wildcats in 2020 as a true freshman and finished second on the team with 15 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown. Like Williams, he played prep football at Cardinal Gibbons in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Elijah Metcalf, a wide receiver from Charlotte, NC, signed with the Blue Raiders in December and is coming in as a true freshman. Metcalf was a three-star recruit out of Mallard Creek High School, where he had 64 receptions for 1,125 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior.
The team will begin workouts on Feb. 1 before beginning mat drills Feb.24. Spring practice is scheduled to begin on March 16 and conclude on April 17.
The Blue Raiders will complete the 2021 recruiting class on Feb. 3.
