MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame and his staff announced a full slate of 22 matches for the 2021 season on Tuesday.
Scheduling matches this offseason has been more difficult than ever before, but Borendame and the Blue Raiders are excited about their upcoming campaign.
"This schedule has been through the ringer," Borendame said. "We lost 10 matches in a matter of three days at one point this fall with the Big Ten, Ivy League and the Blue Gray making cancellations. That being said, we have great matches and are looking forward to great opportunities each weekend. We are privileged to play such great teams. We cannot wait to get started."
Middle Tennessee's schedule includes 14 matches at the Adams Tennis Complex, with eight more contests on the road. Four of the blue and white's opponents hail from the SEC, and four more from the ACC.
The Blue Raiders will open the season hosting six of their first seven at the ATC. Their home opener against the Louisiana Ragin Cajun (Jan. 18) will be the first time the two have played since 2013 and 25th matchup all-time, the Raiders winning eight of the last 10 in the series.
MT will then hit the road for the first time to Starkville, Mississippi for a showdown with Mississippi State (Jan. 24).
They'll play host to Drake at the ATC on Jan. 29, a team MT beat twice last season, before welcoming in the Butler Bulldogs and the Alabama A&M Aggies in a doubleheader at the ATC (Jan. 31).
The Blue Raiders will stay home for their Conference USA opener in a standalone match against Rice (Feb. 5) before heading to Blacksburg, Virginia for a bout with the Virginia Tech Hokies (Feb. 7).
MT will then face Illinois State (Feb. 12) and travel to Notre Dame (Feb. 14) in the second meeting all-time between the programs.
The Blue Raiders will host a doubleheader with Lipscomb and Tennessee State on Feb. 28 before a highly anticipated in-state matchup with Vanderbilt (March 5). It will be the fourth time since 2006 the Commodores have traveled to Murfreesboro.
Middle Tennessee will hit the road for a match with Auburn on March 7, a rematch of MT's big win over the Tigers last season at the Blue Gray Championships.
The Blue Raiders will return to Murfreesboro to host Louisville on March 12, then head back on the road for a pair of SEC battles at Vanderbilt (March 14) and Alabama (March 19).
After a week's break, MT will host two matches against DePaul (March 20) and South Florida (March 28) at the ATC before a quick trip for its second meeting with Louisville (April 1).
Middle Tennessee will wrap up its C-USA regular-season slate with a home match against UAB (April 3) before traveling for the last time to Memphis (April 10). Its season finale against Georgia State will be April 16 at the ATC.
The Conference USA Championships will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina from April 23-25.
