MT Eyes the Main Draw at ITA All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. – The Blue Raiders competed in the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Chris Edge, Pavel Motl, and Stijn Slump represented the Blue Raiders.
In the qualifying singles draw, Slump made quick work of his opponent from TCU. Slump won in straight sets against Lui Maxted, 6-1, 6-2. Edge fell in his match against VCU's Rayane Stable, 6-0, 7-6.
In the Round of 32 to make the Main Draw of the ITA All-American tournament, Slump squared off with Andre Ilagan of Hawai'i. Ilagan bested Slump in a three-set match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 to advance to the main draw. In consolation bracket play, Motl picked up another win versus Tulsa's Daniel Siddall in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
The tandem of Motl and Slump possess the No. 21 ranking after an outstanding campaign last season. They will play together in Tulsa, earning a main draw spot in doubles tomorrow. This is the first time in Borendame's head coaching career that he will have student-athletes make their ITA All-American starts in the main draw portion of the bracket.

"Slump is playing really good tennis right now. He has matured a lot and he made many adjustments in his game since last season. Needless to say, he's been playing a ton of high level matches, and he is proving that he can play at the highest level of college tennis. There is always things you can work on, but I'd say he's definitely heading in the right direction. I'm excited to see our guys in the main draw tomorrow. This is an awesome opportunity for Rocha, similar to the NCAA singles tournament last year. Same for Motl and Slump in doubles, they didn't make the NCAA doubles tournament last year by a few spots so it will be fun to watch them compete."
