Frisbee cherishes opportunity to attend Super Bowl

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Wes Frisbee has had the opportunity to take in a lot of football the past few years as an equipment manager at Middle Tennessee, but he got an entirely different gridiron experience over Super Bowl weekend.
Frisbee, a senior at MT studying exercise science with a minor in psychology, holds a part-time job as a patient care technician at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. He and three of his coworkers were chosen by the Tennessee Titans and Ascension Saint Thomas to go to the big game as honored guests.
"I want to thank the Tennessee Titans and Ascension Saint Thomas for giving me and these three other healthcare workers an opportunity to go," Frisbee said. "They did a class-act job from when we left Friday to our seats, our hotel rooms and following COVID guidelines. … It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Frisbee was told he was selected to attend the game at a special celebration at the hospital a few weeks ago. Needless to say, he was blown away by the offer.
He's always been a football fan and at one time had dreams of playing collegiate ball while attending Ooltewah High School in Ooltewah, Tennessee. However, after a leg injury in high school disrupted those plans, he took the next best thing.
Frisbee's two older brothers had worked as equipment managers at Middle Tennessee, and he decided to continue the tradition.
"It's a family tradition, definitely," he said. "We were good friends with Coach Stockstill before I got there — he's taken good care of us and has been a really good role model for our family. Next thing you know, I'm here and he gave me a job.
"I couldn't be more thankful for Coach Stock. There's no other place than I'd rather be … and it was a great opportunity for me."
Frisbee will graduate in August before enrolling in a physician's assistant program, but before then, he hopes to help out at spring football practice one last time. Like most programs across the country, the Blue Raiders had to cancel their 2020 spring drills because of the start of the pandemic.
"I'm hoping we have this last spring so I can have a little more of a taste of football before I'm done," he said.
While football is one of Frisbee's passions, he really cares about helping people. That's been even more crucial working at a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He takes pride in his work, and it's one of the reasons he was chosen to represent Ascension Saint Thomas at the Super Bowl.
"Mr. Gordon Ferguson, the CEO of the hospital, was talking … and at first, I thought I was in trouble," Frisbee said. "He said he just appreciated everything I did and how I go above and beyond in the line of duty to take care of patients, especially during the pandemic. I was shocked and speechless."
All in all, getting to attend the Super Bowl was a pretty great early birthday present. Frisbee turns 22 on Feb. 17.
"It was a dream come true," he said.
