Blue Raiders Earn the Series Sweep with Four Set Victory at FIU

MIAMI, Fla. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team defeated the FIU Panthers Monday afternoon in four sets (25-22, 25-15, 14-25, 25-15) at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
Middle Tennessee lengthens its winning streak to four matches and improves to 4-5 in C-USA play. It is the first series sweep of the season for the Blue Raiders.
The Blue Raider offense was led by 15 kills from junior Samira Lawson Body. Kayla Henley and Emma Grever tallied nine kills each, and Amelia Van Der Werff added eight.
Defensively, two reached the double-digit dig mark led by 16 from sophomore libero Marley Banton. Kayla Henley recorded double-digit digs for the fifth time this season with 11.
Down 3-2 early in the opening stanza, a 4-1 run for the Blue Raiders gave them a two-point lead. FIU began to narrow the Blue Raider's lead as a battle for the first set ensured. FIU tied the set at 18 and soon took a two-point lead, prompting Middle Tennessee to take a timeout. The Blue Raiders would use a 7-2 run to seal the first set win 25-22.
Knotted up at 6-6 in the second set, a 7-2 Middle Tennessee run, highlighted by a pair of kills and an ace from Samira Lawson Body put the Blue Raiders ahead 13-8. Middle Tennessee rolled to a set two win, 25-15, capped by another 7-2 scoring run by the Blue Raiders.
After starting the third set tied at 3-3, Middle Tennessee worked to keep pace with the Panthers. FIU would later reel off eight straight points to open up a 10-point lead. The Blue Raiders would never recover as FIU won the frame 25-14 to stay alive in the match.
It was all Middle Tennessee in the fourth set as the Blue Raiders won the frame 25-15 to secure the match.
Up next, Middle Tennessee hosts rival No. 20 WKU on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Alumni Memorial Gym. Saturday's match will be on CUSA.tv, while Sunday's match will air on ESPN+.
