MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Men's Golf continues to collect accolades this season, as Kevin Jegers has been named Conference USA Golfer of the Week following his Top 15 finish at the Schenkel Invitational.
The true freshman turned in a 2-over par (71-75-72=218) performance in a field of 80 golfers, defeating or tying 12 players ranked in the Top 250 nationally on Golfstat.
The Tallinn, Estonia native ranked highly in the field in Par 3 scoring (4th at -1), Par 5 scoring (6th at -5) and total birdies (13th with 10), and was one of only 13 golfers in the field to card an eagle during the tournament.
"I am very happy for Kevin to be named Conference USA Golfer of the Week so early in his collegiate career," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "He wasn't able to come over in the fall due to COVID-19, but now that he's here we can tell he has an extremely bright future with our program."
Having arrived on campus from his home country just nine weeks ago, Jegers has already logged seven rounds of par or better this spring – good for second most on the team this semester – and has the second lowest spring stroke average on the team at 72.75 strokes per round.
Jegers gives MT six C-USA Golfer of the Week awards in the squad's last five tournaments, with those six coming from five different golfers.
Tanner Owens and Palmer Sadlowski shared the honor on Oct. 15 following the Intercollegiate at The Grove. Connor McKay earned the weekly award on Feb. 11 after the Raines Company Intercollegiate and earned his second recognition on March 4 when he and rookie teammate Owen Stamper both collected the award after the Southern Invitational.
MT's six honorees and five different players to earn the honor this season are both tops in the league. Jegers and Stamper also make MT the only team with two freshmen to be named C-USA Golfer of the week in 2020-21.
Jegers and the Blue Raiders are back in action next week at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Conference USA foe Charlotte.
