Courtney Blakely inks with MT
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee has added one of the nation's top-scoring high school guards in the 2021 signing class, Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell announced Wednesday.
Courtney Blakely, a 5-foot-8 guard from Gary, Indiana, led the state in scoring with a hefty 31.7 points per game to go along with 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.4 steals for Bishop Noll High School.
"We are very excited about getting Courtney to join our program," Insell said. "She is very talented and can play multiple guard positions. We expect her to have an immediate impact in our program. She can score in a multitude of ways. Courtney is much more than just a scorer and can impact the game in many ways. She is a great fit for us basketball-wise, as well as being a great person from a great family."
Blakely joins Lady Raider prep signees Gracie Dodgen, Jaylynn Gregory and Amiya Payne, along with VCU transfer Kseniya Malashka, in the 2021 signing class.
Blakely is rated a Top 100 prospect by Girls Basketball Report and has been selected to play in the Indiana All-Star game after capping a remarkable prep career. She ended her career ranked 16th in Indiana state history with 2,324 points.
Dan Olson, with Girls Basketball Report, had high review for Blakely after she participated in a Top 60 workout.
"Blakely is a jet-quick guard who pushes tempo and distributes," Olson said. "She's a crossover creator, splits trips and passes with purpose in transition. (Blakely) is a mid-range game creator who is always in attack mode. She is a speed merchant and one of the speediest back court prospects in the Class of 2021."
Blakely, who played on the Nike EYBL circuit for Midwest Elite, also comes from a great pedigree. Her mother, Angela Hamblin-Blakely, was a 1994 Indiana All-Star and finished third in Miss Basketball voting. She is an Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer and head women's basketball coach at Calumet College. She was an All-Big Ten selection and team captain at Iowa and played in the WNBA.
The dynamic guard was an Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-State Supreme 15 selection, and she was named second-team all-state by the Associated Press.
Blakely has a remarkable four-game stretch in December when she scored 49 points in one game, followed by three contests with 50, 37 and a school-record 55 against four different opponents.
Blakely averaged 23 points per game as a junior at Bishop Noll and 20.4 as a sophomore.
The Division I basketball signing period began Wednesday and ends Aug. 1, 2021.
