MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team concludes the 2020-21 season Friday evening as they travel to Huntington, West Virginia to take on Marshall. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CST.
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders are coming off a tough 2-0 defeat to Florida Atlantic on April 2. The Owls scored late in the first half before adding a second goal shortly after coming out of the locker room. With the result, FAU clinched a spot in the Conference USA Tournament while the Blue Raiders were eliminated.
Manley-oh-Manley
Sophomore defender Caroline Manley picked up honors from Conference USA as she was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 7. She helped anchor the Blue Raider defense that held ODU to just 12 shots, including just three on goal. She became the first MTSU player to pick up this honor since Emily Jorgenson in 2015
Atop the Record Books
As a junior in 2019, Peyton DePriest set the program record for career goals scored. With one game still to play, the forward currently sits atop the Blue Raiders record books with 45 goals, which leads the nation among active players and is just two shy of the Conference USA record. DePriest also has a career shooting percentage of .263 and she set the single-season mark for goals per game in 2019 with 1.07.
Freshman Focus
The Raiders have had to rely on the play of multiple freshman this season. Alex Goffi and Alex Fuggle have both been stalwarts on MTSU's back line, each playing every minute of the last four games while Eleanor Gough and Taylor Hamlett have been up at the point of attack. Gough is second on the team this season with three points while Hamlett has added a point of her own.
Series History
The Blue Raiders enter Friday's matchup trailing in the all-time series, 3-2, as the teams have alternated victories in the series. The two teams have not played since 2017 after facing off with each other for five straight years
Scouting the Thundering Herd
Marshall currently sits at 3-6 overall this season and 0-5 in Conference USA after falling 1-0 at Charlotte on Tuesday.
Abi Hugh leads the team and is second in the conference with seven goals. She is also second in the nation in shot accuracy as 14 of her 18 shot attempts have been on goal. Morgan White is the main setup woman for the Herd as she leads the team with four assists. Courtney McVicker has gotten the majority of the playing time in goal and is averaging 4.86 saves per game
