12 Athletes to Compete at NCAA East Preliminary Meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee is set to send 12 athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in Jacksonville, Fla. The meet will be hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium Wednesday, May 26-Saturday, May 29.
Four Blue Raider athletes earned at least two entries into the meet: Eusila Chepkemei, Esther Isa, Amarachukwu Obi, and Erhire Omamuyovwi.
Obi will be one of two Blue Raider women sprinters, running in the 200m and 400m. The freshman is coming off an impressive C-USA Outdoor Championship performance, scoring 18 points, including a gold-medal finish in the women's 200m. She also notched a silver-medal finish in the women's 400m with a new personal best 53.06. Junior teammate Agnes Abrocquah will compete in the 400m.
On the men's side, Jaquez Torian is set to compete in the 400m race.
The Blue Raiders send five mid-distance and distance runners combined to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet. Eusila Chepkemei (800m, 1500m) looks to continue her success from the conference championships after a first-place finish in the women's 800m and a second-place finish in the 1500m and 5000m.
Brian Rono will compete in the men's 800m, and he captured the gold in the event at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. Jacob Choge will compete in the 10,000m and will look to replicate the success he had in the event at conference championships. Kigen Chemadi and Lebo Mosito will both square off in the 3000m steeplechase. Chemadi currently ranks 12th nationally in the event.
With six entries in jumps, Esther Isa (high jump, long jump, triple jump), Akera Benton (triple jump), and Erhire Omamuyovwi (high jump, triple jump) are set to compete in Florida for the Blue Raiders. Isa currently ranks seventh nationally, and Omamuyovwi ranks 17th in the high jump.
