Stockstill announces two transfers for 2021

MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee head football coach Rick Stockstill announced today two transfers into the program who will be eligible immediately. The Blue Raiders welcome Houston Baptist safety Tra Fluellen and Gardner-Webb receiver Izaiah Gathings.
Fluellen (6-2, 207) comes to the Blue Raiders after competing two years for the Huskies. In 2019, Fluellen earned HERO Sports Freshman All-America First Team honors and was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the top freshman in the FCS. He was third on the team in tackles with 101 while also adding two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Last season, Fluellen added 25 stops as Houston Baptist played just four games.
Gathings (6-4, 225) played three years at Gardner-Webb where he collected 101 receptions for 1,341 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2019, he led the team with 71 receptions for 1,046 yards and 11 touchdowns while also pacing the team in 2020 with 26 grabs for 267 yards and two scores. Gardner-Webb played just four games last season.
The Blue Raiders will report for fall camp on Aug. 5 with the first practice set for Aug. 6. The 2021 season opener is set for Sept. 4 at home against Monmouth.
