Soyler to join Blue Raiders in January

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis head coach Jimmy Borendame announced the late addition of Baran Soyler to the Blue Raiders' class of 2022.
"Baran is a solid all-around tennis player and a great student-athlete," said Coach Borendame. "We are excited to work with him, and he is the final piece to our squad for this season. We are all excited to see what this team can do together this spring."
Soyler, a native of Adana, Turkey, will make an impact in singles and doubles when he steps foot on campus in January. Baran joins from Okyanus High School in Istanbul, Turkey.
Baran has been ranked from a young age. He was ranked at No. 33 U14 in all of Europe.
Soyler has seen some success in the ITF Juniors. He was ranked at No. 114 ITF Junior. In 2020, Baran won the ITF J5 Istanbul. In 2021, Soyler earned two junior singles titles at the ITF J4 Shiraz and J4 Istanbul. He also made the final of one ITF J3 in both singles and doubles as well as one J5 in singles.
Soyler was a member of the age 14, 16, 18 Turkish National Team and reached the final of the U18 Turkey National Championships. The Adana, Turkey product was ranked the No. 2 player in Turkey.
Soyler won the national championship at the 18 and up tennis club championships in March 2022.
"I am very excited to be a part of the Blue Raiders, said Soyler. "I can't wait to be a part of such a great team. I'm sure I will contribute a lot to the team, and also it will be a great challenge for me to improve my career."
"Baran will be a great addition to our already deep team and will fit really well in our team culture, added assistant coach Andrea Caligiana. "He is a great kid who loves and breathes tennis. He's traveled around the world to play tournaments and is really excited about joining the team in January. We can't wait to have him on campus."
Soyler joins the freshman class of Ondrej Horak, Marcel Kamrowski and Shu Matsuoka. Soyler will report to MTSU in January.
