MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee redshirt senior Chase Cunningham and redshirt junior Teldrick Ross were both named Conference USA Players of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Blue Raiders to a 49-21 win over FAU. It was the second honor for Cunningham this season and the first for Ross. The C-USA honors are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
Cunningham was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Ross brought home the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Cunningham returned to the lineup against the Owls and turned in a career performance. The Knoxville native completed 40 of 54 passes for a career-best 448 yards and five touchdowns. The 40 completions and the 448 yards both went down as the second most ever recorded in a single game for the Blue Raiders. Cunningham now joins former quarterback Brent Stockstill as the only signal-callers in school history to record multiple 400-yard passing games.
Ross, who ranks second nationally with 18 passes defended this year, turned in seven tackles against the Owls to go with a career-high five pass breakups. The Macon, Ga., native has 11 pass breakups combined over the last three games and 17 for the season. The 17 pass breakups equal the most in a single-season at MTSU and his 18 passes defended ranks third.
Overall, this was the 86th and 87th conference player of the week winners under Head Coach Rick Stockstill with 38 coming in Conference USA and 49 from the Sun Belt. A total of 27 have been on offense, 37 on defense and 23 on special teams.
