Blue Raiders head to Georgia for historic Schenkel Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Blue Raider men's golf is back in action for its first tournament in nearly a month this weekend. Middle Tennessee is among the 15-team field at the 42nd Annual Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. The tournament will take place March 18-20 on the par-72, 7,123-yard course at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Blue Raiders are off to a strong start to the spring slate, having claimed team titles in each of their first two tournaments. Kevin Jegers has won the individual crown in both events, setting the program record for the lowest individual 54-hole score on both occasions.
This will be the Blue Raiders' eighth trip to the Schenkel Invitational. Play starts with tee times between 8 and 10 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday and between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, with 18 holes played each day.
WEATHER
The forecast in Statesboro calls for highs in the 70s throughout the weekend with no more than a 35 percent chance of rain. Sunday's third round appears to be ticketed for clear skies.
NOTES
- In addition to its two wins, Middle Tennessee has finished in the top five as a team five times in six tournaments this season.
- Jegers' two wins are the first of his collegiate career. He was named Conference USA Player of the Week after each victory.
- Michael Barnard leads the Blue Raiders with a stroke average of 70.80 this season.
- Middle Tennessee enters the tournament ranked No. 83 as a team by Golfstat.
