Led C-USA in scoring in 2021-22
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – One of the premier players in Conference USA will be changing addresses next season, as Marshall standout Savannah Wheeler has signed with Middle Tennessee, Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell announced Friday.
Wheeler, a two-time All C-USA performer, entered the transfer portal following the 2021-22 season after putting together a highly-decorated three-year career at Marshall. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"We are delighted to have Savannah Wheeler joining the Lady Raider family," Insell said. "Savannah is an outstanding player, and we know that first-hand having played against her the last three seasons at Marshall. Savannah is a solid all-around guard; great, great shooter; a competitor; and she is going to be a great addition to the Lady Raider program."
Wheeler led C-USA in scoring with 20.3 points per game on her way to first-team all-conference honors in 2021-22. She was also one of the nation's leading scorers, ranking 17th nationally for points per game. Wheeler was also among the Top 100 nationally for field goals made, total points, free-throw attempts, free throws made, and free throw percentage.
The dynamic guard surpassed 1,000 points during her heralded 2021-22 season. She has 1,294 career points, and 143 career 3-pointers.
Wheeler ranked among C-USA's Top 5 for scoring, 3-point field goals per game, field goal percentage and free throw percentage in 2021-22.
Wheeler debuted at the collegiate level in strong fashion, averaging 13.4 points per game as a freshman at Marshall in 2019-20, when she connected for 47 3-pointers and shot 84 percent from the free-throw line on her way to earning a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team.
Wheeler has increased her scoring average each year of her collegiate career, netting 17 points per game as a sophomore. She is a career 36 percent shooter from 3-point range and 84 percent shooter from the free-throw line.
