Blue Raiders Fall to UAB on Senior Day 4-3

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis (9-14, 1-6) falls to UAB (11-10, 3-2) by a close score of 4-3 on Senior Day at the Adams Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders will shift gears to prepare for the Conference USA Tournament next weekend at the ATC on April 21-24. All tournament details will be released on Monday as the bracket is released by the conference.

In today's match, the Blazers picked up the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court No. 1 and a 6-1 win on court No. 3.

The Blue Raiders claimed four first sets to open singles competition, picking up wins on court Nos. 2, 3, 5, and 6. However, UAB would claim the first two points in singles defeating Lee Banard at 6-0, 6-1 and Love-Star Alexis at 6-3, 6-3.

Middle Tennessee would surge and claim the next three points with victories from court No. 5, 6, and 3. Junior Noelle Mauro was the first Raider to finish, taking down Venessa Mellynchuk at 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.

Sophomore Lilly-Sophie Schmidt was the next to win her match, Anna Smith in two close 7-5, 6-4 sets.

On her Senior Day, Zani Barnard went to three sets and dominated the third set over Mackenzie White at 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 to equalize the match at three.

Junior Muskan Gupta took her adversary Sydney Clarke to three sets in the deciding point. Clarke took the tiebreak set at 7-6 (7-4) to give the Blazers the win over MT.

Next Up
MT will have a week to prepare for the 2022 C-USA Women's Tennis Championship in Murfreesboro on April 21-24. This will be the first time since the 2019 season Middle Tennessee has hosted the event. As mentioned above, the conference will release the bracket on Monday, more information will be announced then.
