Middle Tennessee Sends Three Raiders to NCAA Individual Championships in Champaign

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I men's tennis subcommittee announced on Wednesday the field for the 2022 NCAA Individuals Championship that take place from May 23-28 in Champaign, Ill. at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois.
Middle Tennessee men's tennis will send three total student-athletes to contend for a shot at a NCAA Championship, the Raiders will have a player in both championships.
The Blue Raiders will compete in the doubles championship featuring Senior Francisco Rocha and Freshman Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, who currently sit at No. 70 in the ITA rankings and earned the Conference USA automatic bid.
Senior Stijn Slump, who is the second highest ranked player in the C-USA at No. 65, just missed the automatic bid given to Old Dominions' Francois La Tallec. Slump will still join his team in Champaign as an alternate to the singles championship in the event players drop out.
The field consists of 64 singles players (15 automatic bids and 49 at-large) and 32 doubles teams (11 automatic bids and 21 at-large) from across the country. Automatic bids are earned by being the highest rated individual or duo in each conference.
Per the NCAA, conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
Middle Tennessee will have a selection in all three NCAA Championships for the first time under Head Coach Jimmy Borendame. This will be the fifth time in program history that MT has sent a team/player to all three events, the last time was in 2009 under HC David McNamara.
