DALLAS – The conference office has announced Thursday afternoon that graduate student Abigail Kwarteng has been named the 2022 Conference USA Women's Field Athlete of the Year, as voted by the conference's coaches.
Kwarteng joined the Blue Raiders with one outdoor season left of eligibility and made the most of it quickly. The Ghana native racked up many accomplishments throughout the last couple months but was able to top it off as the national runner-up and First Team All-American in the high jump.
Although she could spread to triple jump and long jump, she rose above everyone else in conference when it came to the high jump. Kwarteng cruised over the previous all-season program best of 1.87 meters set by Ann Dudley in 2012 with an astounding leap of 1.92 meters, twice. Her mark of 1.92 meters also replaced her previous Ghanian national record of 1.87 meters.
Her abilities led to her winning six of seven high jump events at meets this season and also earning Conference USA Field Athlete of the Week honors three times, First Team All-Conference USA in the high jump, and Third Team All-Conference USA in the triple jump. The Alabama transfer also became the first high jump USTFCCCA All-American for the Blue Raiders alongside teammate Omamuyovwi Erhire during last week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Nonetheless, she will be considered the best women's high jumper to ever step on the field wearing Middle Tennessee blue.

It only took EIGHT meets for Abigail Kwarteng to prove she's the best in @ConferenceUSA! and yes, she racked up all these accomplishments in one season... 🔥#BlueRaiders | #CUSATF pic.twitter.com/aom2i2cd66
