Six Blue Raiders honored by Athlon

MURFREESBORO – Athlon Sports announced its 2022 All-Conference USA Team for this upcoming season and six Blue Raiders occupied eight spots on the listed teams.
Defensive end Jordan Ferguson earned first team honors after turning in a career year in 2021. Ferguson ended the season with new career marks in tackles (58), tackles for loss (16.5), sacks (9.0), hurries (14), forced fumbles (3) and fumble recoveries (2). The second team all-conference pick ranked 22nd nationally in tackles for loss.
Wide receiver and specialist Jaylin Lane earned three different honors. The sophomore was the magazine's first team punt returner, second team kick returner and fourth team wide receiver. He finished the season with 42 receptions for 466 yards and four touchdowns while also leading the team in punt returns (19-295-1) and kickoff returns (13-285-0). Lane also ranked second nationally in punt return average.
Offensive lineman Jordan Palmer earned third team recognition after starting all 13 games in 2021. Palmer, an honorable mention all-conference selection last season, was second among linemen with 849 snaps played to go with 10 winning grades.
Cornerback Teldrick Ross was voted to the third team on defense. Ross, a nine-game starter in 2021, was sixth on the team with 47 tackles, including two TFLs, an interception, 12 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
Linebacker Johnathan Butler registered 46 tackles to go with three hurries and a forced fumble last year to earn a spot on the fourth team.
Punter Kyle Ulbrich also earned fourth team honors. Ulbrich ended the season with a 44.4-yard punting average with 16 punts of 50 or more yards and 24 downed inside the 20-yard line. His punting average ranked 27th nationally.
The Blue Raiders will begin fall practice on August 3 with the season opener set for Sept. 3 at James Madison.
