Blue Raiders Sign Garakani to 2022 Class

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis head coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall announced the signing of Sana Garakani to a national letter of intent and the Blue Raiders' class of 2022 on Tuesday.
"We are very excited Sana is joining our Blue Raider Family!" said Bailey-Duvall. "Her passion and drive embodies our team culture. We look to improve from last year's season, and I believe Sana will help us move to the next level."
Garakani, a product of Lisbon, Portugal, will be a high-powered member of future Blue Raider squads, who has already received a career-high International Tennis Federation under 18 junior ranking of No. 1002.
This year, Sana has participated in singles and doubles events on the ITF women's circuit, advancing to the third round twice in the W15 Monastir and the W15 Antalya. She also picked up a doubles win in the main draw of the W25 Montemor-O-Novo against Raquel Alvaro and Maria Beatriz Teizeira.
In the 2021 youth season, Sana was effective in both singles and doubles play on the ITF juniors circuit, wrapping up the campaign with a 16-11 record (9-7 in singles, 7-4 in doubles), advancing to the finals of the J4 Shiraz and the semifinals of the J5 Porto.
Garankanis' presence on the ITF circuit will bring an immediate impact to MT women's tennis next season, as the Blue Raiders return six members of last year's squad. Sana joins Rutuja Chaphalkar as the two members in the 2022 signing class, both are scheduled to report to Murfreesboro in the Fall to begin camp and start their collegiate tennis careers.
During her studies at Middle Tennessee, Sana intends to major in Interior Design.
