Wheeler Earns Conference USA Player of the Week Again

Junior guard named Player of the Week for second time this season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—No. 23 Middle Tennessee women's basketball's big day continues. Junior guard Savannah Wheeler has been named Conference USA Player of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career Jan. 23.
Wheeler, who reached 1,500 career points Jan. 19 at Charlotte, averaged 19.3 points, 3.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds and one steal in Middle Tennessee's 3-0 week, including a season-high 29 points vs. Louisiana Tech Jan. 21. Scoring 14 of Middle Tennessee's 31 points in the fourth quarter, Wheeler was key in helping MTSU break away from the Lady Techsters.
A member of the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List announced by Her Hoop Stats Jan. 18, Wheeler, who ranks 16th nationally in free throw percentage (90.6 percent), made 15 of her 16 free throw attempts in the past three games.
Wheeler dropped a team-high 19 points, hit five 3-pointers and dished five assists in a 76-54 win over UAB to start the week.
Middle Tennessee extended its winning streak to 14 games, which is the fourth longest active streak in the nation.
The 2022-23 C-USA Players of the Week are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
