Lady Raiders cruise past Firehawks 97-44 in exhibition

MTSU opens the 2023-24 season in dominant fashion against UT Southern
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Lady Raiders defense was relentless Friday evening in the Murphy Center, as MTSU held the UT Southern Firehawks scoreless over the opening five minutes of the game en route to a 97-44 win.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a red-hot start with a 14-0 run and took a 27-3 lead into the second quarter, thanks to 14 quick points from junior Jalynn Gregory. In the second quarter, the game shifted to the free throw line as MTSU found UTS in early foul trouble. The Lady Raiders went 14-of-18 from the charity stripe and took a 55-17 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of the half, MTSU picked right up where they left off with a 13-0 run and never looked back. On the evening, seven Lady Raiders scored at least eight points, led by Gregory with 20.
By the Numbers
52.7 percent: The Lady Raiders shot 52.7 percent on the night against the Firehawks, including 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
38: MTSU had 38 points off of turnovers on the evening to UT Southern's 13.
20: Jalynn Gregory tallied a team-high 20 points on the evening on 6-of-11 from 3-point range, with a pair of free throws.

Blue Raider Fans of all ages are invited to enjoy a special Halloween treat on Monday, October 30th. Prior to tip-off, fans can join in the fun of trick-or-treating around the track-level concourse in the Murphy Center. Blue Raider Teams, MTSU Athletics' Corporate Sponsors, Student Organizations, and MTSU Departments will be on hand to pass out candy.
All fans can purchase tickets for this exciting match at the special rate of $8. As an extra treat, children aged 17 and under wearing Halloween costumes will receive complimentary admission.
