Middle Tennessee Defeats FIU on Senior Night
10/27/2023 10:29:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer honored its seniors after Friday night's match against the FIU Panthers, and did so in resounding fashion, knocking off the visitors 2-0 at Dean A. Hayes Stadium to conclude the 2023 season.
Eleanor Gough, Lauren Spaanstra, Kaitlyn Butcher and Jackie Reilly were recognized postgame, and graduate students Hannah Suder, Elizabeth Slavinsky, Caroline Manley and Cambell Kivisto each ended their fifth season together with the victory.
Gough had both assists Friday night, the first to set up Manon Lebargy for her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 33'. After continually knocking on the door after halftime, the Raiders extended their lead on an Idun Kvaale tap-in in the 60'.
Suder made seven saves to hold the Panthers scoreless, and claim the team's fifth shutout of the season. MTSU's win is the second in a row to conclude the season, after dispatching Jacksonville State on the road last Sunday.
Rhoden's Roundup
"I'm very proud of the way the team has performed these past two games," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "In particular, this one meant so much more to us, to follow a performance last week with a solid performance again this week. It's difficult to accept that we're not playing next week. But I think this team could have just folded, but yet, we put the past behind us, thought about where we want to go, the school that we represent, and took a tremendous amount of pride playing."
By the Numbers
7,212: Manley capped her time in Murfreesboro with a program-high 7,212 career minutes played, while becoming the first Blue Raider to enter the 7,000 career minutes club. The defender from Arlington, Tenn. did not miss a start across her five years at Middle Tennessee.
241: Suder meanwhile finished her career with 241 saves, fourth most in program history. The Jacksonville, Fla. native's 66 matches played is also third most among goalkeepers in MTSU history.
4: Gough's four total shots led MTSU Friday night, with the senior also having a team-high three shots on goal.
