Wheeler Awarded C-USA Player of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.–– For the third time this season and the fourth time in her career, Middle Tennessee women's basketball's Savannah Wheeler is this week's Conference USA Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.
Scoring 57 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, recording four steals and dishing five assists, Wheeler led the Lady Raiders (20-4, 13-2 C-USA) to two wins against WKU (94-81) Feb. 9 and UAB (63-42) Feb. 11.
The Catlettsburg, Ky. native played her best game in a Lady Raider uniform Thursday, scoring a season-high 37 points on 11-of-16 shooting, while making 13-of-15 free throw attempts as MTSU scored a season-high 94 points. The junior guard drew 12 fouls from the Lady Toppers, while dishing out four assists and nabbing a team-high two steals.
Wheeler tied the most points by a Conference USA player in a game this season and set her own career high in a C-USA game. Her 11 field goals and 13 free throws set new season highs.
Nearly recording a double-double against the Blazers with 20 points and nine rebounds, Wheeler tied a season high in boards and recorded her seventh 20-plus point game as a Lady Raider.
Thirty-four of Wheeler's 57 points last week came in the second half.
Middle Tennessee travels to Florida later this week for matchups against Florida Atlantic Feb. 16 and FIU Feb. 18.
