Mealer earns first C-USA Player of the Week Award

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee shortstop Laura Mealer has earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
After being ranked top-15 in the country for batting average heading into the weekend, Mealer continued to swing the bat well at The Spring Games hitting .474 (9-19) with two home runs and eight RBIs. She had a hit in every game played by MTSU this weekend and multiple hits in three of the five games.
She now leads C-USA in batting average, RBIs, total hits, and runs scored.
The Chapel Hill, Tennessee native is hitting .508 on the season and leading her team with 31 hits. Mealer has five home runs and 24 RBIs with a .589 on-base percentage after this weekend.
This is her first career C-USA weekly honor.
Middle Tennessee finished 3-2 at the Spring Games and will host the MTSU Invitational starting on Thursday, March 9.
