Third largest gift in Athletics history
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Locally owned SRM Concrete donated $3 million to Middle Tennessee State University's Build Blue Campaign, the third-largest gift in Athletics history, officials announced Friday.
Formerly known as Smyrna Ready Mix, the family owned and operated ready-mix company was founded by Melissa and Mike Hollingshead in 1999. It provides ready mix concrete and construction materials to customers throughout 19 states.
"MTSU is a huge part of this community, and we are proud to partner with the Blue Raiders as they transform their athletic facilities over the next several years," said Mike Hollingshead, SRM Concrete's chairman and owner.
"The future is extremely bright for MTSU Athletics, and we're excited to be a part of it."
The transformational gift is the second-largest donation secured by the Blue Raider Athletic Association (BRAA) to Build Blue, a $100 million-plus effort launched in November 2021 to upgrade Athletics facilities. It grants SRM Concrete naming rights for the third-floor club in the $66-million Student-Athlete Performance Center now under construction on the north end of Floyd Stadium.
SRM Concrete's donation pushed Build Blue past its $20-million private fundraising goal. The campaign now sits at more than $21.4 million thanks to gifts from 373 donors. Total funding for the Master Plan projects is now approaching $100 million.
"This gift by Melissa and Mike underscores their commitment and devotion not only to MTSU, but to our entire community," President Sidney A. McPhee said. "SRM Concrete has been a staple in the community for more than two decades, and this is yet another demonstration of their incredible generosity and service."
Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said, "This gift will help significantly enhance our facilities to compete with the very best in the country. We can't thank the Hollingshead Family and SRM Concrete enough for their commitment to impacting the student-athlete and fan experience at MTSU."
Construction on the Student-Athlete Performance Center is expected to be complete in the fall of 2025. The three-story, 85,000-square-foot performance center will provide MTSU student-athletes with new facilities for weight training, nutrition, and sports medicine.
It will also be the new home for Blue Raider football, allowing MTSU to relocate its football operations from the Murphy Center to the north end zone of Floyd Stadium.
The BRAA has now exceeded two fundraising goals toward the Build Blue Campaign. The campaign's goal was increased to $20 million last fall after the initial goal of $15 million was reached. As a result, the BRAA has once again increased its Build Blue goal to $25 million.
Additional naming opportunities within the Student-Athlete Performance Center and Murphy Center are still available. Those wishing to join the BRAA and impact the student-athlete experience through the Build Blue Campaign can contact Hans Malebranche at (615) 898-2210 or hans.malebranche@mtsu.edu.
