Former Blue Raider basketball player Chase Miller has pledged a seven-figure donation to the Build Blue Campaign, MTSU Athletics and the Blue Raider Athletic Association announced Monday.
This donation is Miller's second major contribution to Build Blue, the $100+ million campaign to transform MTSU's athletic facilities, following his six-figure gift in 2022.
In honor of his latest gift, the eighth seven-figure commitment secured to date in the campaign, the practice gymnasium inside the Murphy Center will be known as "Chase Miller Gym." At just 28 years old, he becomes the youngest seven-figure donor since Build Blue's launch in 2021.
MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee said Miller's contribution has helped catapult MTSU Athletics into Phase II of the Build Blue Campaign, which focuses on the renovation of the historic Murphy Center.
"As a former student athlete and successful alumnus, Chase embodies the hard-working, generous True Blue spirit of our community," said MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee. "It is fitting that his name will be affixed to part of Murphy Center."
Miller, a native of Dallas, Texas, now works in commercial real estate in his hometown. He joined the MTSU basketball team in 2015 and participated in two NCAA Tournaments, an NIT, and a total of 92 wins during his four years in the program.
"I'm so excited to be able to make another contribution to the university, athletic department, and basketball program that mean so much to my family and me," Miller said. "The Build Blue Campaign is such a beneficial project for the entire MTSU community, and I wanted to double down on my commitment to making this facility enhancement a reality.
"I can't wait to see the impact that this project will continue to have on current and future Blue Raiders."
Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said Miller was a long-time fan favorite at the Murphy Center, with the chant of "Miller Time! Miller Time!" shouted every time he entered a game.
"I am blown away by Chase's incredible generosity, especially at such a young age," Massaro said. "He poured his heart and soul into MTSU basketball, and I can't think of a better way to honor him than to name the court where he spent countless hours working on his game."
Build Blue Campaign has now raised $21.5 million in donor cash, donor pledges, and additional funds towards its $25 million goal, Massaro said.
Construction on the $66-million Student Athlete Performance Center broke ground in March 2023 and is scheduled for completion in July 2025, while the $8 million Outdoor Tennis Complex was completed in February. Almost 400 individuals and companies have contributed to Build Blue campaign.
Phase II of Build Blue will see the 52-year-old Murphy Center receive a much-needed facelift that will include a new main entrance, the Ole South Atrium, offices for Men's Basketball, and renovations to the Chase Miller Gym.
Naming opportunities at both the Student-Athlete Performance Center and Murphy Center are still available. Individuals wishing to join the Blue Raider Athletic Association and impact the student-athlete experience through the Build Blue campaign can contact the BRAA offices for additional information at (615) 898-2210 or BRAA@mtsu.edu.
