Bronner and Spies Earn Weekly CUSA Honors

Bronner named Defensive Player of the Week; Spies claims Freshman of the Week
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Libero Alivia Bronner was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the week, while setter Andi Spies earned Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday, November 18. Bronner becomes the second Blue Raider this season to win Defensive Player of the Week, joining teammate Laure Jansen. Meanwhile, Spies has now been honored with Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Alivia Bronner had the best week of her collegiate career in the recent series against New Mexico State. The libero recorded 41 digs across the two matches, averaging 5.13 digs/set, and added a service ace. In the Blue Raiders' sweep victory against the Aggies, Bronner tallied 17 digs across the three sets, good for a 5.67 digs per set average. In the second match of the series, the libero set a career-high with 24 digs. The Cedar Falls, Iowa native has been on a hot streak, recording at least 17 digs in four of her last five matches- a remarkable stretch considering she had not hit that mark previously this season. Bronner finishes the regular season with 265 digs and 28 service aces.
Freshman setter Andi Spies also delivered an outstanding performance against New Mexico State, recording 79 assists, 15 digs, eight kills, five service aces and five blocks. Spies averaged 9.88 assists/set and posted an impressive .353 hitting percentage with her kills. In the second match of the series, the setter filled the stat sheet recording a double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs, along with four blocks and three aces. Spies has had an incredible freshman campaign, tally 1,071 assists, 260 digs, 132 kills, 72 blocks and 44 aces. The Fort Atkinson, Wis. native ranks second in CUSA in aces and third in total assists. Her 1,071 assists also rank 21st nationally.
