DALLAS – After a stellar performance at No. 1 Tennessee Dec. 23, Camryn Weston was voted Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The award marks the first of his career and the first regular season conference award won by a Blue Raider this season.
In the Blue Raiders' lone game of the week, Weston scored the second-most points of his career on the road against the top-ranked Volunteers, earning 24 in the contest. The redshirt-senior's 17 first-half points were integral in Middle Tennessee pacing Tennessee 40-32 at halftime, the first time all season the Vols have trailed at half or allowed opponents to score more than 36 points in the first frame. His first-half scoring total matched the most in a frame by an individual Tennessee foe.
The Albany, Ga., native shot 50 percent from both the field and from deep, knocking down three three-pointers. Weston's nine made field goals set a new mark for the most made shots in a full game by a single player against Tennessee this season. Knocking down seven shots in the first half, he also set a new high in a session by a Volunteer foe this season. Weston accompanied the 24 points off the bench with two rebounds and a season-high four steals, one short of tying his career high.
What's Next?
The Blue Raiders are on the road to Miami, Fla., January 2 to start Conference USA play against the FIU Panthers. The Panthers are 5-7 on the season and will play one final non-conference matchup before beginning league play.
