Wheeler named CUSA Player of the Week

DALLAS – Following a pair of strong performances against Liberty and LA Tech to cap off the regular season, Middle Tennessee guard Savannah Wheeler was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Sunday afternoon.

Wheeler, a graduate from Catlettsburg, Kentucky picked up her 10th career weekly accolade and fifth of the season – she was previously named Player of the Week seven times and Freshman of the Week twice.

The preseason CUSA Player of the Year was sensation this week, tallying 39 points, 16 assists, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Wheeler tallied a team-high 21 points, seven assists and three steals in the Lady Raiders' 67-52 win over Liberty, where she went 9-of-24 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. With her 21 points, Wheeler moved into third place on the all-time CUSA scoring leaders list. She followed that showing with a near triple-double against LA Tech. Wheeler tallied a team-high 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the 79-58 win over the Lady Techsters, where she went 6-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. With the win, the 2023-24 Lady Raiders became just the fourth team in Conference USA and program history to go undefeated in league play.

The guard currently leads the league in Scoring (17.5 PPG), Assists (150), Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.1), and Minutes (37.8).
