Lady Raiders roll past Lady Techsters 79-58

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee defeated LA Tech 79-58 on Saturday morning at the Murphy Center. With the win, the 2023-24 squad became just the fourth team in Conference USA and program history to go undefeated in league play.
The Lady Raiders (26-4, 16-0 CUSA) and Lady Techsters (13-18, 7-9 CUSA) were in a low-scoring battle right out of the gate. MTSU held LA Tech to just two field goals in the opening quarter and used a 10-0 run to take a 19-6 lead into the second period. In the second, the Lady Raiders extended their lead to 17 points at the midway mark. The Lady Techsters responded with a late offensive spark. Middle Tennessee entered the half up 37-29.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Raiders exploded offensively with a 14-4 run to open the third quarter. MTSU extended its lead to 22 points with four minutes remaining in the period and entered the fourth up 64-46. The Lady Raiders would go on to win convincingly, 79-58.
Anastasiia Boldyreva, Jalynn Gregor and Savannah Wheeler each tallied 18 points on the day. Boldyreva posted an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double, while Gregory tallied 18 points and a pair of steals, and Wheeler logged 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds. They were followed by Ta'Mia Scott with 12 points, five boards, three steals and two blocks.
By the Numbers
2: The Lady Raiders held the Lady Techsters to just a pair of field goals in the opening quarter. In the first, MTSU blocked the first three attempts by LA Tech.
10: Middle Tennessee has thrived on the long ball under Head Coach Rick Insell. The Lady Raiders are 146-18 all-time when connecting on 10 or more triples in a game under Coach Insell.
16: The 2023-24 Lady Raiders became just the fourth team in CUSA and program history to run the table in league play. MTSU has posted a 23.3 average margin of victory in league play this season.
Lady Raider Notes
• With one block on the day, Boldyreva has now tied the single-season blocks record set by Cheyenne Parker (88). The junior has 187 career blocks, just five away from the career blocks record set by Kay Wilbanks (191).
• With eight points, Courtney Whitson eclipsed 1,500 career points. She is just the 12th Lady Raider in program history to accomplish that feat.
• Middle Tennessee joins UConn (18-0 Big East), Fairfield (18-0 MAAC), South Carolina (16-0 SEC), Gonzaga (16-0 WCC), FGCU (16-0 ASUN), JSU (16-0 SWAC), and South Dakota St. (16-0 Summit League) as the only teams in the nation to go perfect in conference play.
