Cannizzaro named CUSA Athlete of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Carmelo Cannizzaro was named Conference USA Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The first weekly conference award of the outdoor season for the Blue Raiders.
"Very excited for Carmelo," said head coach Keith Vroman. "He has been training hard and staying focused on his goals and it is paying off for him."
In his first outdoor meet of the season, Cannizzaro ran the 28th fastest time in the nation in the 3000-meter Steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays. He ran the 12th fastest time in the NCAA East to qualify for the upcoming outdoor Regionals at 8:49.93s. The Modica, Italy native's time ranks 1st in Conference USA and the NCAA South Region.
It would be the first NCAA regional of Cannizzaro's career in Track and Field. Cannizzaro will be back in action in a couple weeks to defend his nationally ranked time.
Next Up
The men's and women's teams will be in Knoxville for the Tennessee Relay's starting on April 5.
