SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program continued to build upon its first-round success at the Cardinal Cup, shooting 297 as a team to sit at third in the team competition (588). The team tallied 14 birdies, though got into some high numbers on the front nine.
The low round of the day belonged to Abbie Lee, who has had a phenomenal first 36 holes in her first tournament back from injury. The senior shot one-under-par (71) through the second round, jumping up 23 spots to finish T13. Lee carded three birdies, with just two bogeys to bring her total to +4.
Ella Manley sits the highest on the leaderboard of the Blue Raiders, jumping up to T3 after a relatively clean day on the course. The sophomore also tallied three birdies, including one off the jump on the first hole. With an even score on the day, Manley has shot 144 (+1) throughout the two days of competition.
After a tough start to the day, triple-bogeying the second hole, Kendall Maynard improved on the back nine to finish at 75 (+3) on the day, shifting to T8 for the competition (145).
Lanie Campbell also struggled on the front nine but was able to turn it around after the turn, carding three birdies on holes 10 through 13. A shot into the weeds made for a difficult hole 14, ending with a triple bogey. The junior finished at 79 (+7) on the day to fall to T29 on the player leaderboard.
Nicole Johnson tallied three birdies during her second round, but found it difficult to find consistency, also shooting a 79 (+7) on the day to move to T67 overall.
Wamsley's Words
"I'm really proud of the team - to have three in the top 15 is pretty solid," said head coach Lauren Wamsley. "Sitting three shots back is a good position to be in heading into the final round. It was a great bounce back by Abbie, to shoot up 23 spots in the player leaderboard in her first tournament back in a while. Really proud of Ella and her fight, sitting at T3 heading into the final round."
