Blue Raiders Fall to FIU in CUSA Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team (3-6-0, 0-1 CUSA) fell to the FIU Panthers (6-3-0, 1-0 CUSA) tonight in its Conference CUSA opener 4-2 at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Raiders took an early lead after Idun Kvaale, off the assist from defender Sadie Sterbenz, scored her third goal of the season in just the 6th minute of the match, coming off another set-piece.
Middle Tennessee would continue to control a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, which is the sixth time MTSU has led this season after the opening 45 minutes.
FIU would come out of the intermission and put four unanswered goals on the board, including a hat-trick from forward Noemi Paquin, moving the score to 4-1 in the 73rd minute.
The Blue Raiders would pull one back in the 82nd minute after a goal by midfielder Manon Lebargy, her sixth of the season, which leads Middle Tennessee. The play was set up by fellow midfielder Risui Arasaki, coming off the Blue Raiders second set-piece goal of the night.
The full-time whistle would blow with the Panthers leading 4-2, giving the visiting side their first win in conference play in 2024, and dropping Middle Tennessee to 0-1.

The Blue Raiders capped off the 90 minutes tonight vs. FIU with a pair of goals on 16 total attempts and six on frame. Kvaale and Lebargy were the goalscorers, with Sterbenz and Arasaki picking up the assists. Goalkeeper Demi Gronauer was forced to make seven saves tonight against the Panthers 11 shots on goal.
