Matsouka Named CUSA Athlete of the Week, Al-Amin and Horak Win Doubles Team of the Week

DALLAS, Texas – Following the opening week of the 2025 spring season, Blue Raiders Shu Matsuoka, Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak have been tabbed as this week's Conference USA Athletes of the Week, per the release from the conference office on Wednesday.
Matsuoka was named the conference's Athlete of the Week after a perfect 3-0 start in singles play, defeating opponents from Tennessee, Lipscomb and UT Southern, each in straight sets. Matsuoka featured as the Blue Raiders' No. 3 seed against the Volunteers on Thursday and as the No. 2 seed against Lipscomb and UT Southern on Saturday, improving his career win total to 31.
Al-Amin and Horak, currently ranked as the 45th doubles team in Division I, were awarded this week's Doubles Team of the Week with two wins in three matches during opening week. Middle Tennessee's top doubles pairing defeated the Volunteers' No. 1 seed Jan Kobierski and Alan Jesudason 6-2, followed by a 6-0 win over UT Southern's Rage Matuck and Luis De Santana.
The Blue Raiders are set to travel to New York City this week for the start of the ITA Kickoff, opening with a matchup against the 24th-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. CT.
