MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's soccer (8-5-3, 3-2-1 CUSA) dropped a 2-1 decision to New Mexico State (2-11-3, 1-2-3 CUSA) on Thursday night at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
New Mexico State opened the scoring in the 34th minute. MTSU responded after halftime with increased pressure, earning six corner kicks and several shots before finally breaking through in the 69th minute. Midfielder Ximena Jauregui netted the equalizer to bring the Blue Raiders level to 1-1.
Goalkeeper Demi Gronauer played 90 minutes in goal. Just four minutes later, however, the Aggies regained the lead in the 72nd minute and held on for the win.
Head coach Aston Rhoden on the team's game plan after the first half:
"We just had to get back to the basics. I think we didn't play as unified as we normally do. We were very individualistic at times, and that hurt us because that's not who we are."
