MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis head coach Jimmy Borendame has announced the addition of Clement Mayoral and John Popowich to the Blue Raider program.
Mayoral, from Menilles, France, stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 200 pounds, bringing size, experience, and an international background to the roster. He holds a UTR of 12.31 and will join the Blue Raiders as a graduate transfer in the fall of 2026. His French ranking is –2/6. He is also the brother of current Blue Raider Antoine Mayoral, a member of the 2025–26 MTSU men's tennis team.
Mayoral on choosing MTSU:
"Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamed of being able to give 100% to the sport I love. I haven't really had that opportunity yet, and I truly believe that MTSU is the perfect place to make that dream come true. My brother is already part of MTSU, and I can't wait to share this experience with him and with the rest of the team. I know this is the place where I'll be able to push my limits, keep improving every day, and do my best to contribute to the team's success."
Assistant coach Josh McDermott on Clement Mayoral
"We are very excited to add Clement to our team for Fall 2026. Clement's brother, Antoine, currently plays for the Blue Raiders and has been making a strong impact so far. Clement will be coming in as a graduate transfer from France. He brings a big game and lots of experience with him."
Popowich, from Sandy Hook, Connecticut, stands at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. His accomplishments include winning two ITF Junior doubles titles, earning a 5-star recruit rating on TRN, qualifying for the M15 Futures main draw in Egypt, and holding a current TRN ranking of No. 34, with a career-high of No. 26 and an ITF Junior high ranking of No. 469.
Popowich on choosing MTSU:
"t's an honor to become a Blue Raider and join the growing community of Murfreesboro. The culture Coach Jimmy and Josh have created gives me a great opportunity to grow on and off the court. I'm extremely motivated to get to work and contribute to the team!"
Assistant coach Josh McDermott on John Popowich
"What stood out most about John was not just his ball-striking abilities but his character. John is a very competitive player who takes great care of the details, and his energy is contagious. John competed in our UTR PTT tournament and had a very strong showing; he also recently earned his first ATP points. We are excited to have him join us next fall."
