Middle Tennessee Defeats TSU 59–53 in Season Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee opened its 2025–26 campaign with a 59–53 win over Tennessee State on Monday morning at Murphy Center.
MTSU jumped out to a 25–15 lead after the first quarter, shooting 45 percent from the field and forcing six TSU turnovers in the opening frame. The Blue Raiders maintained a 38–28 advantage at halftime behind the play of sophomore forward Savannah Davis, who reached double figures before the break. Tennessee State responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring MTSU 15–6 to trim the deficit to 44–43 entering the fourth.
Middle Tennessee regained control in the final 10 minutes, opening the quarter with key stops and a steady offensive rhythm to outscore TSU 15–10 down the stretch. Davis led all scorers with 16 points, while senior guard Alayna Contreras added 14 points, four steals and two assists. Freshman guard Blair Baugus anchored the interior with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double, helping MTSU finish with a 44–41 advantage on the boards.
