MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's basketball has signed Tennessee native Jahvin Carter to the 2025-26 roster, head coach Nick McDevitt announced Thursday afternoon. Carter, originally from Alcoa, Tenn., played his freshman season at Penn State and will join the program as a sophomore this summer.
"We are very excited about Jahvin coming back home and joining our program," said Coach McDevitt. "He had an outstanding prep career at Alcoa High School and enjoyed a solid freshman season at Penn State as well."
Carter made 26 appearances in his freshman season as a Nittany Lion. He scored a season-high 12 points in the second game of the season against UMBC on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and an impressive 3-for-3 from deep. The Tennessee native boasted a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio in his rookie campaign.
Prior to college, Carter was a three-star guard who ranked as the No. 4 player in Tennessee per 247Sports out of Alcoa High School. No stranger to the Murphy Center, he led the team to two state championships and was named Tournament MVP in 2023 and 2024. Carter is Alcoa's all-time leading scorer with over 3,000 points, holds the school record for single game points scored (62) and was named Tennessee 2A Mr. Basketball, MaxPreps Player of the Year and 5Star Preps Player of the Year in 2024. He was also nominated to the McDonald's All-American Game and Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year. The guard was a three-time all-state selection, three-time Daily Times Player of the Year honoree, four-time all-district selection and four-time team MVP.
