MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Standout guard Alayna Contreras has signed with the Middle Tennessee women's basketball team, head coach Rick Insell announced Thursday evening.
"We are excited to welcome Alayna to the Blue Raider family," Insell said. "She is an experienced player who has the proven ability to score the basketball. She has a high basketball IQ and will thrive both on and off the court in Murfreesboro. We expect her to make an immediate impact. Here at Middle Tennessee, we don't rebuild, we reload, and the addition of Alayna is a prime example of that."
Contreras, a 5-6 guard from Minneapolis, Minn., started in 33 games this past season at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was named to the All-Summit League Second Team after leading the Roos in scoring with 17.3 points per game. The guard shot 38.0 percent from the field, including 32.8 percent from beyond the arc, and was 78.4 percent from the free throw line. Contreras averaged 2.1 assists per game and 1.2 steals per game and also led the Roos in minutes per game (34.7).
She is a product of Hopkins High School, where she played alongside 2025 WNBA No.1 overall draft pick Paige Bueckers and was a part of the 2018-19 Minnesota 4A State Championship team, going a perfect 32-0. She was also a key member of the 2019-20 squad that was ranked No. 1 in the country by ESPN and went 31-0, qualifying for the 4A State Championship game before it was canceled due to COVID.
