Blue Raiders Open CUSA Play with Road Win at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. — Middle Tennessee (6-7, 1-0 CUSA) earned its first Conference USA victory of the season with a road win over Kennesaw State (7-5, 0-1 CUSA) on Friday, Jan. 2.
Senior Alayna Contreras hit her first field goal of the game, reaching a milestone by scoring her 1,000th NCAA career point. The Blue Raiders got off to a great start with a 13-0 run, leading 13-2 early on, and went into halftime ahead by 8 points, 28-20. In the third quarter, sophomore guard Savannah Davis ended MTSU's 4-minute scoring drought, pushing the lead to 32-28. The Blue Raiders then wrapped up the third quarter with a 7-0 run, finishing up 39-32.
Freshman guard Blair Baugus added a layup that boosted their lead to a game-high 15 points at 56-41 with 2:32 left in the fourth quarter. Baugus had a standout performance, scoring a career-high 25 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and making 3 steals, while Contreras added 18 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals.

"Well, this is probably one of the most complete games we've had this year because we ran offense. We took care of the basketball. We handled our pressure. I thought we did a good job on the floor."
