Women’s Soccer drops road contest at Delaware, 1-0

Newark, Del. – Middle Tennessee Women's Soccer fell 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to Delaware at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
With the result, the Blue Raiders' fall to 8-4-4 (1-2-2 CUSA) but remain in fifth in Conference USA, while the Blue Hens improve to 9-2-4 (4-0-1 CUSA) and second place in the conference standings.
''I thought we gave a good account of ourselves and played a really solid game,'' MTSU Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. ''They scored off a second-phase ball, kind of like we expected, and it was really unfortunate as it was really late in the game.''
MTSU put pressure on Delaware from the jump, with Hailey Phillips and Liza Miller taking shots that were blocked within the first seven minutes.
In the 23rd minute, Delaware's Ava Sallee tried her luck from outside the box, but Ella Sellers punched it away for her first save of the day.
Just five minutes later, Hannah Murphy sent Phillips to goal with a one-time through ball, but Blue Hens goalkeeper Sophia Hall stood tall to parry the attempt and only concede a corner kick.
In the last few minutes of the half, Valentina Navetta controlled an errant Delaware clearance before sending Pitman through for her own one-on-one chance, but Hall denied her to keep the match scoreless.
At the halftime break, the teams were tied with six shots apiece, with the Blue Raiders knocking on the door multiple times.
To begin the second half, MTSU rattled off four shots, but it was Delaware who scored the game's lone goal at the hour mark. Blue Hens points leader Maggie Groh found Ava Agresti in the box, who scored her second goal of the season to earn all three points for the Newark outfit.
Despite Middle Tennessee outshooting Delaware 14-10 and outpossessing the Blue Hens in the final third, it could not find an equalizer to earn a well-deserved point.
In the loss, Miller took a career-high four shots, doubling her career shot total. Additionally, Maaja Fischer made her first career start, playing a career-high 69 minutes.
