MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team thrived in its second day of the MTSU Fall Invite, winning eight out of nine matches it participated in between singles and doubles play.
The Blue Raiders swept in doubles play against Western Kentucky, while only dropping one out of six contests in singles against Butler.
Paired together, Victoria Matasova and Sthefany Lima defeated Virginia Madueño and Emily Schut, 6-2, maintaining control of the match throughout. Similarly, Zhanel Rustemova and Maria Palacios took down Andra Sirbu and Isabelle Einess, 6-3, holding a multi-game lead throughout. Lena Peyer and Sadbaroy Kholdarova dominated Madison Hill and Barbara Olvera, never wavering as they earned a 6-1 victory.
In singles, Rustemova began on the back foot, losing her first set against Brooke Arington, 3-6. She reversed the scoreline in the second set before outlasting her opponent in the tiebreaker set to win with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
Peyer's match with Sophie Parr also went to three sets, with the Blue Raider winning set one, 6-4, before conceding set two, 3-6. The senior left no doubt in the tiebreaker, winning 10-4 to take the set and the match.
