The Blue Raider offense got off to a strong start, putting up 17 points in the first half. This included back-to-back touchdowns on the first two drives of the game. Quarterback Roman Gagliano punched in a touchdown from one-yard out to cap off a nine-play, 76-yard drive.
Antonio Martin Jr. was the next Blue Raider to find paydirt, scoring from seven yards out with 11 minutes to play in the second quarter. This gave Middle Tennessee a 14-7 lead, which was ultimately the only lead of the night for the home team.
Dominic Bourgeois was responsible for the next six points for MTSU, knocking in kicks from 45 and 38 yards out.
Kennesaw State's offense took over in the second half, out-scoring the Blue Raiders 25-3 prior to a late, record-breaking touchdown for MTSU.
With 1:50 left to play returner Santana Fleming corralled a kickoff in the Blue Raiders' own end zone, and dashed across the turf in Floyd Stadium for six. This marked the longest kick return in program history, etching Fleming's name in the record books for the 100-yard return.
